Interview with Sergio Amalfitano.

When i first met sergio,i was expecting a much more hostile person.considering he sings for a band called ANTI CHRIST-DEMON CORE,i was expecting a satanic brute of sorts. But upon my first introduction to him,he was one of the nicest dudes i've ever met. With his photography and his Document photozines,he is preoccupied when he isn't playing shows with his bands ¡Liberate! and ACXDC.To top it all of,he just recently became the father of two twin baby girls. While he has all this on his plate,he still manages to help bands and set up shows.the homie, for sure.

36: first off how are you doing as a new dad? are your girls keene on dad's music? haha
Serg: Its pretty wild. I mean you basically have purpose in life out of nowhere haha. Before you just kind of go thru the motions of trying to be a good person and being your own person but now you live for other people. So it kind of made me reanalyze a lot of my beliefs and life and everything. It makes you both appreciate the world a little more and at the same time it makes me hate the things Ive always hated a hell of a lot more. Especially raising the girls to be vegan and whatnot Im already experiencing a lot of opposition before they even eat solid food. But its worth it in the end. I play a bunch of music for them. They like it all. They like noise really I think it calms them down. Ive been playing a lot of Pianos Become the Teeth, Seven Sisters of Sleep, Afternoon Gentlemen, Wormrot, etc and they love it. I also found lullaby renditions of
Metallica, Nirvana, Ramones, Led Zeppelin, etc and they like that too haha.

36: so when did acxdc form?

ACxDC formed in 03 or so. We had always tried to make a band but it never really worked out. I graduated highschool and we ended up forming ACxDC and my other band Asshole Assassination Squad
 like right after.

36: why did you choose your name? the satanic themes in your songs really make you unique from other powerviolence groups.

The name was really a joke at first. I mean we didnt think wed be so heavily associated with any real themes. We just wanted to play a style of music no one was playing at the time that we grew up on and loved. We had met and half of us were more into hip hop and metal and the other half was more into thrash and fast hardcore punk (so the middle ground was powerviolence which we all liked haha). The name came about because we all liked Charles Bronson and threw around the idea of naming ourselves after a person but I had seen a Dashboard Confessional video where they took the font lettering from AC/DC and put D/C on the drum head. I thought...lets just call ourselves ACxDC haha. At first it didnt mean Anti-Christ Demon Core. It stood for whatever people wanted. All Cows Die Cruelly, All Children Deserved Cookies, All Christians Deserve Crucifixion, Anti-Christ Demon Core, etc. But I think the first flyer someone wrote out the whole name so we stuck with it. The x wasnt an edge thing. At one point we were all edge but now its just me. It stood for just hardcore. Nowadays it still doesnt stand for being edge although we all support edge and veganism etc. It stands for the original meaning which is ALL AGES. As for Satanism I enjoy the shock value I suppose but none of us are Satanic. At best were Satanic in the LaVeyan sense but definitely not in a theistic sense. Were all fairly agnostic/ atheist in our beliefs.

36: after acxdc broke up,you formed Liberate.how did this come about?

After ACxDC broke up the first time I was in Max Ward which was a straight up bass and drum powerviolence worship band. Jimmy from Max Ward was also starting up a band called ¡Liberate! He started this band with Moses from Bastardass/ Mobile Terror Unit / Medic/ Syntax and Mario from Medic after Medic broke up. They all basically wanted a fast hardcore band in Spanish. We all grew up on Life's Halt, Crudos, Scholastic Deth, Subsistencia, DS-13, etc. So that was the style we loved. Jimmy knew I was bilingual and was heavily into socio-political themes so he asked me to join. Being from LA we all though why the hell is it that everyone is Latino but they all sing in English. So it was set!

36: how did the acxdc reunion(s) come about?

After a couple years my only band dwindled down to ¡Liberate! We had intended to do a reunion with the original ACxDC lineup but that only lasted for one show with the legendary Asshole Parade. Things fell apart and we just put it to bed. Didnt think about it for a long time. For some reason later on A LOT of people were hitting me up around the same time asking if wed ever come back and to play again. At the same time a lot of people were hating on the idea saying it was lame and who cared and blah blah blah. I mean its DIY and everyone has an opinion but DIY means do it yourself so thats what we did. Basically Shoes of Cement (aka Jose and Bobby Lopez) were playing a show I was attending. These are my doods so when they asked if I would sing an ACxDC cover with them I of course said yea. The people there went crazy and sang along and after kept saying it would be cool if we did a show. It was something Jose kept bringing up for a while too and finally I said why not? Talked to all the guys involved and brought it back. We wanted to do it proper and its taken us a while to find this lineup but we finally did something we had never done by touring and putting out a second record!

36: what are acxdc's plans for the future?

Plans for the future include a tour for Europe, Asia, Australia, West Coast up to Canada, So Cal to the Gulf Coast, etc. Also wanting to put out material! Currently 7" is at the plant, a three way flexi split is in talks with Sex Prisoner and Magnum Force, a split with Street Pizza, a split with Hoy Pinoy, a split with Afternoon Gentlemen, etc etc. Lots of talk but well see what pans out. We just want to work with our friends and
bands we love and tour off it!

acxdc live in riverside.shit was fucking crazy.

36: finally, what are some of your favorite bands emerging in the recent powerviolence resurgence?
