THE MAGNUM FORCE INTERVIEW
magnum force is a powerful band.ive never seen them live, but from footage and the records ive heard,it seems as if that is where they are in their prime.each song is heavy in delivery of both music, but also lyrically.topics never stray far from hateful, hurt and angered lyrics of persecution, suicidal thoughts and self loathing.the music matches the brutality with sheer speed but also intensity in ever inch of the record.this interview was done with the bands frontman danny.enjoy.
36th Chamber Of Thrash: when did magnum force form?
Danny Johnson:MF formed in 09. I wanted to start a fast hardcore band so I asked a couple if friends and we been playing every since
36th:what are some of your influences lyrically?
D:My influences lyrically are gay issues and just shit I hate.
36th:the split with sex prisoner and acxdc is tight, how long did it take you guys to record those tracks?
d:I think it only took us a couple of days to record the tracks we recorded the drums, guitars and bass in one session then I did vocals later.
36th:you have alot of hatred in your lyrics.does singing for the band have a cathartic effect for you?
d:I hate saying this but it like a release for me. I have so much built up anger. My childhood sucked I had some really awful shit happen to me. I wish I could kill the fucker who hurt me. That's why the shit I write is pretty much always hateful.
36th:what are your top 5 records youre spinning right now?
D:1. Goosebumps - I Hate My Body EP
2. Gag - Skimask '95 EP
3. A$AP Rocky - LONG.LIVE.A$AP
4. Masshysteri - Var Del Av Stan LP
5. Antwon - In Dark Denim
d:Thanks again for having interest in our band.
36th: thanks for answering my shitty questions.

FINAL DRAFT WEST WORLD ORDER REVIEW
Final Draft are one of those bands that dont put out records that are sub par with previous releases, nor full of filler. They are known for always delivering the most sonically brutal records they can produce in the best way possible. Many expected that the follow up to 2008's s/t 7" to be sub par to the magnitude of rad achieved by the previous record.so when this record was finally released,it was kept away from the internet
and was kept under wraps in a way alot of records these days dont (with the obvious exception being TO THE POINT).i finally was given the opportunity to listen when their guitarist, jose, posted up that he FINALLY had vinyl copies of the much talked about and ever elusive jams,i jumped at the opportunity and scored hard.the new Lp,in my personal opinion, outdoes the previous effort of the band.the blasts are faster, the breakdowns gnarlier and the vocals harsher than ever.its a throwback to the AxRxM split but more destructive x10.all the songs are super emotional and the lyrics actually mean something ,a breath of fresh air in a genre where talking about star wars or actors is coveted.everything about this record reeks of classic Inglewood Powerviolence. definently never to be fucked up,Final Draft continue on with their unpredjudiced IWHC assault.

BEATRIZ CARNICERO INTERVIEW
Beatriz Carnicero are a powerviolence band from Montevideo,Uruguay. They pick where Charles Bronson left off with a total youth crew sound while still remaining as dissonant as west coast bands like crossed out or infest.while they are a new band, they have the songwriting skills of bands 3 times their age.their debut tape No Reces (Opaqus rex.) is an absolute killer with tracks ranging from fast as fuck pv to 90's death metal grooves while not having one song exceeding over a minute.I emailed them last year and was contacted by their guitarist Dario.while it took a while to finally obtain(and eventually post),this is one of my favorite interviews ive conducted yet.enjoy.

36th chamber of thrash:When/How was BC formed?
Dario:Beatriz Carnicero started in early 2010. We were not sure of what style we were going to play, but we wanted to play. Nico (bass) and I (DarĂo, guitar) had tried to do something a long time ago, but never made concrete issues or ever played outside our rehearsal. We used to listen to a lot of music but with preference for extreme genres like death metal and grindcore. Marcelo had never played drums in a band, didn't even have drums. He listened punk and learned to play in the rehearsals. This combination of influences led us to powerviolence and some bands which are influential for us ...
36th:What are some of your infulences as a band?
dario: Bands like Infest, Hellnation, are perhaps the most influential in defining our style ... But somehow we also owe something to Ratos de Porao, DRI, Dead Kennedys, Minor Threat, Napalm Death, Magrudergrind, and even Cannibal Corpse and Obituary, though that´s less obvious.
36th:what are some influences for you as a lyricist?
illegal grindcore at its finest. |
NO RECES, in mid-2012.
Dario:As far as I know, there are not many grindcore bands in Uruguay. We usually play with punk and hardcore bands, which ultimately we are too.
36th: what are your plans as a band for the future?
dario: The purpose is always to play, not only in gigs, but also to get together and play, to improvise, to make new tunes. And then recording, and continue editing together with bands we like ... Maybe we will travel a bit more in the future. We have not played outside the country. We look forward to playing with friends from Argentina and Brazil. It is the most feasible for the near future.
36th: thanks for the interview,homeslice.
dario: Thanks for listening and writing to us. Greetings!

BASTARD NOISE-THE PROGRESSION OF SICKNESS 10"
Here on 36th there are a few things truly cherished to us.those being 1)feedback 2)The Big Lebowski and of course 3) Bastard Noise/MITB.so when i was finally able to obtain this 2012 masterpiece,i was thrilled. The two tracks, one on each side, showcase the brutality of Eric Wood's musical genius and virtuoso on bass as well as the dissonance of the unique noise the bastard noise blends into its sound.Aimee Artz vocals as the perfect addition to the bastard noise.the variation between the vocals of Artz and Wood create a new layer to the music that they did not before.producer micheal rozan mixed this album so perfectly that every element, distorted note, buzz of noise and shrill scream is of the highest quality of recording.the addition of drummer Jesse Appelhans(formerly of san diego noise group Upsilon Acrux) is well adjusted and perfect for the band after the departure of longtime drummer Joel Connell.Deep Six records stated it the best on their website-"The Progression of Sickness will prove to all skull servants that the evolution of THE SKULL is a fury to behold"
If i had gotten this release earlier ,it would've very easily battled sordo for my top pick of 2012
5 stars.
